Anecdotal evidence of grease introduction into anaerobic digesters has long demonstrated that the performance of wastewater anaerobic digesters is enhanced if FOG can be effectively processed. However, if the digester isn’t evenly loaded, the careful balance a digester requires can be upset, diminishing the effect and even undoing the benefits entirely. The FOG Energy System captures the opportunity to reduce biosolids from FOG digestion while eliminating the problems often encountered with digesting FOG material. The system uses a continuous introduction of FOG Energy feedstock to enhance the performance of your digester and prevent shocks, acid/alkaline imbalances or overloading. In existing operations, the enhanced digester performance resulted in greater than 40% reduction in resulting biosolids compared to the levels seen before implementing the FOG Energy System design. This dramatic reduction significantly lowers the cost of disposal and can help address a growing challenge being felt in communities across the country. The benefits an operator will derive will depend on a variety of factors, and FOG Energy engineers can evaluate your current digester performance to advise you on the appropriate levels of FOG waste which can be processed in your digesters and the expected performance benefits from doing so – both in energy generated and biosolids reduced. |
